Recalling the crystalline coastal sunlight and swirling mists of her native Peru, the works of Pilar Vilchez Figuerola embody the use of strong, vibrant colour, fragile textures and diaphanous layers that reveal deeper dimensions and perspectives.
Inspired by the verdant Dutch landscape and a kaleidoscopic abundance of cut flowers, her Dutch work reflects strong floral motifs.

The bold graphic forms and strong use of colour, are softened by layers of gauzy femininity.
The use of textures and transparency in her paintings is a direct influence from her textile works in felt, where layer upon layer is built up, silk and golden threads interwoven, as if one is looking down through the clouds at a river as the sun sparkles and dances on its surface. As if time itself is compressed into a different dimension.

Confident use of colour and feeling for depth underpins all of her work - masculine and feminine elements intertwined and harmoniously balanced.
